St Rose Women's Club Installs New Officers
The St Rose Women's Club installed a new slate of officers for 1998-99 at a
dinner meeting at Christopher's Restaurant in Brookfield on June 17.
The new officers include Debra Sennefelder, president; Monica DeFeo,
treasurer, and Mary Maki, secretary.
Dolores Ruscoe and Mary Ann Meyer were honored as the club's women of the year
for their work on the hospitality committee. Mrs Ruscoe accepted a bouquet of
roses from outgoing president B.J. Johnson-O'Connor. Mrs Meyer was unable to
attend the meeting as she was on a house-hunting trip to Iowa, where her
husband is now working.
This year the club performed such services as preparing food baskets for the
needy, serving cider and donuts after Thanksgiving Eve mass, helping a
parishioner who went to India to work with Mother Teresa's mission, providing
Holy Spirit books to members, giving a gift to the St Rose School scholarship
fund, helping the Men's Chorus with a reception after Mass, and adding $500 to
an account which will be used for an item for any new parish building
committed for construction within the next four years. The Women's Club also
will assist with a reception at a mass honoring Tom Curran, who is becoming a
deacon on June 28.
For spiritual renewal, the club sponsored a Lenten talk by Sister Eileen
Reilly on justice, the Way of the Cross during Lent, a retreat at the Mercy
Center on Long Island Sound, and a program of seasonal music, readings and
meditation at the Christmas dinner.
Outgoing officers who were recognized and thanked included B.J.
Johnston-O'Connor, president; Queta Donovan, vice president; Pam Arsenault,
secretary; Kaaren Valenta, treasurer; Justina Hansen, Parish Council
representative; Peggy Baiad, membership; Debbie Reilly, telephone chain; Anne
LaBianco, historian; Connie Sullivan, publicity; and Dee Ruscoe and Mary Ann
Meyer, hospitality.
