Habitat For Humanity Informational Meeting Set Dec. 6
A public meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, for persons who
are interested in learning about eligibility requirements purchasing for two
affordable houses that will be built in Sandy Hook.
The Housatonic Habitat for Humanity has scheduled the meeting for 7 pm in the
lower meeting room at Edmond Town Hall.
Habitat for Humanity plans to build two three- or four-bedroom houses on a
3.5-acre parcel on Philo Curtis Road. Voters at a town meeting approved the
transfer of the land to the non-profit group last year.
The houses will be sold to families on no-interest, 20-year mortgages for what
it costs Habitat to build them.
Families with a household income that is 25 to 50 percent of the median income
for this area, which is $62,000, are eligible to apply. The maximum income for
a family of four would be $32,000; for a family of eight, $42,000.
Priority will be given to people who live or work in Newtown.
Liz Yoho, a Habitat for Humanity spokesperson, said families need to be
selected before the houses are built because the families will be required to
work at least 400 hours as volunteers building the houses.
