Hearing Set On Housing Program Funds
The Board of Selectmen will conduct a public hearing at 7 pm on Monday,
September 11, to obtain citizens' views on the Housing Rehabilitation Program,
which is currently administered by the Community Development Office.
Community Development Director Elizabeth Stocker said the hearing will solicit
public opinion and will allow the board to respond to proposals and questions
regarding the current program.
The public hearing will focus on community development and housing needs. It
will solicit suggestions for new projects and review the program's
performance.
Residents are invited to come to the hearing to suggest and comment on
proposals for the use of Small Cities funds. They also may send their comments
to the Office of the First Selectman, Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street,
Newtown 06470.
The primary objective of the Small Cities program is to develop viable
communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environments and
by expanding economic opportunities, primarily for low- and moderate-income
people. Seventy percent of the funds from the Small Cities Community
Development Block Grant Program must principally benefit those families and
individuals.
In the past, the block grant funds have been used for rehabilitation projects
on private residences and to do renovations on the elderly housing at
Nunnawauk Meadows.
The public hearing will be held in the conference room of Town Hall South at 3
Main Street immediately preceding the regular Board of Selectmen meeting.
