Lions Club Fund-Raising Goes High-Tech
(with photo)
he Newtown Lions Club is going high-tech.
The local civic organization's past fundraisers have included door-to-door
light bulb sales and vintage car raffles. Now, club president Joseph Grasso
has announced the start of a year-long fundraising campaign selling personal
computers.
"We know that a lot of computers will be purchased during the next year, and
we hope a few of them will come from the Lions Club," Mr Grasso said.
According to project treasurer David Brown, the computers, assembled in Sandy
Hook, include Intel Pentium MMX processors, multiple GB hard drives, a super
fast CD-ROM, sound system, monitor, mouse, keyboard, 3«" floppy drive and
Windows 95.
"These are complete package, delivered, set up and ready to go," Mr Brown
said. "They come with everything you need, including a one-year parts and
labor guarantee."
Just in time for the holidays, these "stocking stuffers" range in price from
$1,345 to $2,875 and should be ordered by December 10 for best chance of
timely delivery.
Profits from this year-long fundraiser will go toward financing the Lions'
many local contributions. This year's budget includes support for Newtown's
Meals on Wheels, Cyrenius H. Booth Library, Cullens Memorial, CASA, WIN and
Newtown Fund (food baskets), Youth Services, Family Life Center, Summer
Festival, Heritage Preservation Trust, D.A.R.A., Fuel Bank, Jenner Stadium
lights, Parks & Recreation campership, children's play area, drug awareness
and speech and hearing programs.
