Business Partners Create A New Venue For Crafts

B Y A NDREA Z IMMERMANN

Local craftspeople now have a venue for their work at the Old Cider Mill on

Route 302, which also offers fresh cider, apples, Christmas trees, and

wreaths.

The business, reopened recently by Ray Corbo and Elaine Mandulak, will have

its Grand Opening on Saturday, December 7, from 9 am to 5 pm.

"There are a lot of creative people here, and we'd like to give people a

chance to show their stuff," said Ms Mandulak. "And, also, we try to be

reasonably priced. People who have a lot of money can find things here, or

someone who has $5 can still get something. We try to be open like that."

Items currently offered in the renovated building include painted tables and

stools, decorations, chests (some cedar-lined), framed and matted silk

screened print by Neil Bittner, old post office boxes, gift baskets with

creams and shampoos, cross-stitch, painted trays, candle holders, pine cone

wreaths, a quilt, decorative birdhouses, and angels. The Christmas tree

decorations vary from painted wooden ornaments, to those made from paper

mache, fabric, and glass. Fresh arrangements of greens are also offered.

"We've found that a lot of crafters are husband and wife teams - that is so

neat," said Ms Mandulak. The partners continue to seek crafts items to sell,

especially quilts and afghans.

Christmas trees in stock are douglas fir and blue spruce; the business will

soon offer white spruce - "all reasonably priced." Cider will be available

through Christmas, as will apples: Macoun, Cortland, Crispin, and Golden

Delicious.

Future plans for the business include selling fresh cut flowers and

arrangements, and hosting classes in arrangements and wreath making. In the

spring, the partners will stock nursery items, gardening tools, and bird seed;

but no feed will be sold.

The Old Cider Mill is open year round. Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 9 am

to 5 pm, and Monday through Friday, noon to 5 pm. Telephone is 270-0096.
