Sewer Plant Bid Offering Draws 105 Queries

There has been heavy interest among construction firms in submitting bids on

building the sewage treatment plant at the end of Commerce Road.

The plant will treat the wastewater from the municipal sewer system and the

state sewer system at Fairfield Hills.

Peter Grose, sewering project director for Fuss and O'Neill, the town's

consulting engineers, told Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) members

that as of September 28, 105 queries had been received from general

contractors and subcontractors.

Site preparation work for the sewage plant has been underway during recent

weeks.

A pre-bid meeting on the construction project was held for contractors on

September 21. Following the session, prospective bidders visted the site,

according to Mr Grose.

The bid opening is scheduled for October 19. The new plant is expected to be

in operation in about two years.
