A Bird's Eye View

Keep a journal of activity in your bluebird house. Start with the date you

made the house. Then write when you put it outside and describe where in your

yard it is. A close watch will allow you to include information as the birds

build a nest, lay eggs, hatch the eggs, nestlings take flight and more.

Wildlife Management suggests this way for you to keep track --

Date: time and weather conditions;

Nest: type, materials used, date started, date completed, height of nest;

Eggs: number, date first egg laid, date last egg laid;

Young: number, hatch date, age (hatch date = Day 1), condition;

Parasites: type, any control measures taken;

Fledglings: number, date; and

Interesting observations: competitors, predation problems, behavior.
