Head O'Meadow Roof Replacement Will Wait A Year
In order to receive state aid for a public school roof replacement, a roof
must be at least 20 years old or have a serious flaw in its design or
installation.
The Head O' Meadow School roof, which is leaking and in need of replacement,
is only 19 years old and architects from Kaestle Boos Associates say they
haven't found any problems with the roof's design or construction. Therefore,
the project will likely be delayed until next summer when the Boggs Hill
elementary school celebrates its 20th birthday, according to Superintendent of
Schools John R. Reed.
For now, Dr Reed said a flood coating will likely be put down to temporarily
stop the roof's leaks.
The superintendent said he hopes to be able to put the roof project out for
bid by late summer or early fall of this year in order to receive the best
possible price.
The project's cost is estimated to be about $630,000 with the state
contributing 37 percent or $233,000.
