GOP Has Questions About Police Commissioner's Vote
Some Republicans are pressing for answers as to why fellow party member Carol
Mattegat voted in favor of a Democrat to take over the Police Commission.
She will be asked to explain herself at Monday's meeting of the Republican
Town Committee.
Last month, Mrs Mattegat, a town committee member, was the swing vote in
Democrat Robert Connor's 3-to-2 victory over Republican incumbent chairman
Bill Meyer.
Town Committee members Mike Snyder and Pierre Rochman had requested that Mrs
Mattegat explain her decision to support a non-Republican for the police
Commission's chairmanship.
Two years ago, Mrs Mattegat was unseated as the commission's chairman by Mr
Meyer.
"Carol is prepared to make her comments," said Republican Town Committee
chairman Marie Sturdevant.
The town committee is also slated to hold a caucus to nominate new town
committee members prior to its regular meeting. All registered Republicans are
invited to attend.
