P&Z Considers Lots Off Main Street
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) is considering a proposed three-lot
residential subdivision in the borough on one of the last pieces of
subdividable land there.
Borough of Newtown, LLC, has proposed Sugar Acres for 11 acres on property
with frontages at 7-A Main Street and Roosevelt Drive. The property is west of
the police station.
More than six acres of the 11-acre site would be donated to the Borough of
Newtown Land Trust, said attorney Kevin Gumper, representing the applicant. He
spoke at an April 2 P&Z public hearing on the construction proposal.
The applicant already has received zoning rule variances from the Zoning Board
of Appeals (ZBA). The variances concern road frontages.
Albert Perella, who owns property at 15 Roosevelt Drive, posed questions to
the developer about construction aspects of the project at the hearing.
Gene Orlowski of 20 Sugar Street also asked questions.
The site is steep and has extensive wetlands. P&Z action on the proposal is
expected at an upcoming session.
