Charter Hearing Is April 16

The Legislative Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed changes

made to the town charter by the Charter Revision Commission Wednesday, April

16, at 7 pm in the middle school library.

The commission recently submitted its charter change recommendations to the

council earlier this spring. After the hearing, the council will vote on the

proposed changes, then send it back to the charter panel, which can accept the

council's recommendations or act on its own. After a final review by the

Legislative Council, the charter changes will go before the taxpayers at a

machine vote.

The charter revision issues include splitting the budget to allow taxpayers to

vote separately on the town and school budgets, creating three at-large seats

on the council, and various amendments to the annual budget time line.

A copy of the commission's proposed charter changes is available in the town

clerk's office.
