Police report an illegal sledding incident on Toddy Hill Road January 8 in
which a local man received multiple injuries.
Police said motorist Christian A. Meeske, 18, of 265 South Main Street was
driving a two-door 1987 Subaru GL northbound on a snowy Toddy Hill Road near
Sugarloaf Road at about 4 pm. The Subaru was towing two sleds on ropes behind
it, police said.
Riding the sleds were Armand R. Cyr, 19, of 126 Brushy Hill Road and Peter F.
Lipusz, 20, of 11 Wildcat Road, police said.
The Subaru had two passengers in it, Jessica M. Rose, 16, of 27-H Nunnawauk
Road, and Melissa M. O'Hara, 18, of 18 Sunnyview Terrace, Sandy Hook.
Meeske told police that he beeped the Subaru's horn to alert the two towed
sledders that another car was approaching from the opposite direction.
As the Subaru slowed down, Lipusz slid off his sled to the right and escaped
injury, police said.
Cyr slid off his sled to the left, went across the southbound lane of Toddy
Hill Road and then went up a snowbank. Cyr then slid back down onto the
southbound lane where he collided with a southbound 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88
driven by Donald W. Sharpe, 62, of 62 Underhill Road, according to police.
Cyr received head, shoulder and abdominal injuries in the collision, according
to police. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Cyr to Danbury
Hospital for medical treatment. He was reported in fair condition Wednesday
afternoon in the hospital.
Police issued Meeske, Cyr and Lipusz infractions tickets. Police said Meeske
was illegally towing sleds with passengers on them behind a motor vehicle on a
public road. Police said Cyr and Lipusz were being illegally towed on sleds
behind a motor vehicle on a public road.
Police took no enforcement action against Sharpe.
