Bishop Egan Announces Appointments
The Rev Raja Bose, parochial vicar of St. Rose of Lima Parish, has been named
parochial vicar of St. Edward the Confessor Parish in New Fairfield, effective
June 20.
The announcement was made last Friday by The Most Rev Edward M. Egan, Bishop
of Bridgeport, who also announced the appointment of newly ordained Thomas W.
Powers, a former Newtown resident, as parochial vicar of St. Theresa Parish in
Trumbull, effective July 26.
Father Raja Bose was born in southern India, where he was ordained in 1973 and
served as a pastor for 14 years. He came to the United States in 1988, earned
a master's degree in marriage and family therapy, and served as parochial
vicar of St. Stephen's Parish in Bridgeport and St. Thomas the Apostle in
Norwalk.
He came to St. Rose Parish in August 1995.
Father Powers grew up in Newtown, attending St. Rose of Lima Elementary School
and Immaculate High School in Danbury. He graduated from the University of
Notre Dame in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in economics, and worked as a
senior financial consultant for Andersen Consulting in New York City before
completing his pre-theology courses at St. John Fisher Seminary. He received
his STB degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 1996 and
was ordained to the deaconate in St. Peter's Basilica that same year.
He served his deacon internship at the North America College in Vatican City
and is currently attending the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the
Family in Rome.
Father Powers celebrated his first Mass on May 25 at St. Mark's Church in
Stratford. His parents, Thomas and Margaret Mary Warren, now live in
Naperville, Ill.
