Town To Take Steps To Protect Town Hall South
First Selectman Bob Cascella still plans to fortify Town Hall South even
though he is evacuating town employees from the building's lower level.
"We don't want to totally blow the integrity of the building," he said
Tuesday.
The first selectman met with Public Works Director Fred Hurley this week to
discuss a plan to protect the Main Street structure from the flooding that has
ravaged the building the past few winters.
As a temporary measure, the town's highway department will install a drainage
system along the roof of the building to prevent rain water from seeping in
windows. Workers also plan to install a sump pump in the slab of the lower
level.
"This should alleviate the problem," Mr Cascella said.
The Town Hall South employees are expected to temporarily move to Canaan House
on the Fairfield Hills campus next month. The town is currently seeking a
permanent site to house those employees and possibly those still working at
Edmond Town Hall.
