SNAPSHOT FOR JULY 18, 1997: ANNETTE LEVY
Occupation: Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. I live in Danbury but
I will have been in the Newtown job for 15 years now, come August.
Biggest change in town: Definitely the traffic on Church Hill Road. It's
absolutely amazing. To drive to work I've started getting off 84 at Exit 9 and
coming in on Route 6, just to avoid the worst part.
Family: My husband is Arthur Levy. We have two children who are working in the
area and living at home. Our daughter, Nicole, is 25 and our son, David, is
23. We enjoy being together in the evenings and usually I cook the dinner.
It's something I like to do, and I know they appreciate it. But I always get
help when I ask for it, which I'm not hesitant to do.
Pets: Besides the squirrels that make our deck and bird feeders their home, we
have a black pug dog named "Vince" and a cat named "Sam." They don't always
get along.
Once Vince jumped off a second floor deck when he got excited about seeing a
squirrel. And he's a real bully with the cat, who seems to think he has to put
up with it.
Hobbies: I like photography, especially taking pictures of nature and the
places we go. Also, gardening. I'm enjoying the bee balm right in full bloom
right now, and have been spending time unraveling the bind weed from around
the gladiola stalks. What a job!
Books: I used to be a literacy volunteer but I don't do that anymore. By the
time I get home from work around 6 pm, fix dinner, eat and finish cleaning up,
it's 8:30 pm and I don't have much energy left for clubs or going places. I
like reading short novels or other escape reading.
Personal philosophy: One of my favorite quotes is this: "Age is something that
doesn't matter unless you are a cheese." Movie actress Billie Burke said it.
She played the Good Witch of the North in The Wizard of Oz . She was very kind
and had a wonderful voice with a little quaver in it. Very distinctive.
Also, I try to be accommodating and available to help people. In my job,
that's important. But sometimes when I get overloaded, I have to think of
myself, too. That doesn't come as easily, since I was raised to put others
first. I am learning.
