Movie Sleepers Due To Be Released In October
B Y S TEVE B IGHAM
When the cameras were rolling at Fairfield Hills Hospital last fall during the
making of the movie Sleepers , the event was the talk of the town.
Filming was completed in November and the movie has been on the editor's table
ever since. According to Bert Brown of the state's film office, the movie is
expected to be released nationwide by Warner Brothers in October.
Mr Brown recently returned from Los Angeles where he met with Barry Reardon of
Warner Brothers to discuss plans for the release in Connecticut.
Mr Brown said there's no word yet as to whether Warner Brothers will hold a
screening of the movie in Connecticut prior to its release, but explained that
most producers like to run films in the area where they where shot to show
their appreciation to the community.
The movie stars people like Kevin Bacon of Salisbury and Dustin Hoffman of
Roxbury, not to mention Robert DeNiro and Brad Pitt.
Mr Brown said he would look into a possible pre-release screening at the
Edmond Town Hall, which is believed to be the nation's first-ever town hall
with a movie theater.
Sleepers , based on a controversial book that claims to be a true story, is
about four friends who suffered brutal attacks from sadistic reform school
guards, reuniting when one of the guards is murdered.
The Connecticut film office's primary function, according to Mr Brown, is to
market and facilitate film production in Connecticut.
