with cut: Dr Gunzy Will Relocate To Arizona
Dr Todd Gunzy, a podiatrist with offices in New Haven and Newtown, will
relocate to Mesa, Arizona, this January. There, the surgeon will become a
partner in a busy podiatry practice, teach at a hospital residency program,
and be a co-director of a wound care center.
"It's exciting, but a little bit scary," said Dr Gunzy, who has lived in this
area all his life. "It was great [working at Advanced Foot Care Specialists of
Connecticut] - establishing relationships with people in the practice. I'm
very sad and sorry to leave them behind."
His future partner, Louis Freed, was a fellow resident at the hospital in New
Jersey where Mr Gunzy trained. Both surgeons trained under residency director
Dr Paul Quintavalle.
"[Louis] has been after me for two years to come to Arizona. He got me to go
and do a club foot surgery with him in May," said Dr Gunzy, and that decided
it. "He has an extremely busy practice, and we know we can work well
together."
Dr Gunzy also plans on expanding his medical philanthropy. He will continue to
join the volunteer medical team which visits Guatamala each year through
Healing The Children. After relocating, he hopes to join his partner in
working with Native Americans on reservations, as well as making monthly trips
to operate on those in need in the Mexican border town of Nogales.
Although the surgeon calls the change "bittersweet," he is characteristically
optimistic about the future. And he doesn't intend to cut all ties with former
patients. In fact, he has arranged for a 75-year-old woman under his care to
pay a social visit in Arizona.
