A new hair salon, Hair.N.The Hook, has opened in Sandy Hook Center at the
location of the former John's Barber Shop.
The salon is owned by Bonnie VanDerLaan, who grew up as the only girl among
the Fredericks siblings on Pole Bridge Road in Sandy Hook.
"We worked night and day for four weeks to get the place ready for the grand
opening," she said. "I have five brothers who are carpenters, so I had a lot
of help."
Another Newtown High School graduate, Denise Parrino Vadas, is among the
stylists who will be working at Hair.N.The Hook. She and Bonnie formerly
worked together at Cuts Plus in the Sand Hill Plaza.
All hair services including perms and colors will be available at the newly
renovated shop, which features a toy corner to keep children occupied.
"There's nothing worse than going to get your hair done and having to worry
about your children," Bonnie said. "This keeps them busy and safe."
Also planned is a wall of large black and white photographs, entitled "Real
Cuts for Real People," which will feature the shop's customers.
Deciding on a name for the new salon was easy.
"Bonnie and I grew up together in The Hook," Denise explained, "and now we
will be back working here."
In addition to a few parking spaces in front, there is ample parking in the
lot behind the stores in Sandy Hook Center.
Hair.N.The Hook is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, Friday
from 10 am to 8 pm, and Saturday from 10 to 3. For information, or
appointments, call 270-8777.
