House Under Construction Destroyed By Arson
An arsonist or arsonists apparently burned down a new house under construction
on the isolated Hoseye Coach Road in Sandy Hook last week, according to Fire
Marshal George Lockwood.
No one was injured in the blaze which caused an estimated $60,000 in damage to
the house of Daniel Garcia of 1 Hoseye Coach Road, Mr Lockwood said.
The shell of the house had been built and the structure was at the
construction stage where shingles are applied, Mr Lockwood said. Sheetrock
hadn't yet been installed in the house.
The fire apparently had been set sometime overnight on February 14-15, well
before the fire was discovered and reported about 3:30 pm on February 15, he
said. Sandy Hook and Botsford firefighters responded.
The fire wasn't noticed because the house was approximately three-quarters of
a mile away from the nearest building, he said.
The fire caused damage so extensive that the building's foundation will have
to be demolished. Mr Lockwood termed it "a complete loss."
Mr Lockwood said he has turned over the investigation of the arson to Police
Sgt Henry Stormer who is a deputy fire marshal.
