Still Life Compositions By Jose Escofet W/1 Cut - SS
NEW YORK CITY -- A second exhibition of new still-life oil paintings by Jose
Escofet will be at Jensen Fine Arts in association with O. Kelley Anderson
Fine Arts from November 4 through December 19.
"Jose Escofet: Recent Works" features 17 beautiful fruit and floral
compositions that demonstrate Escofet's great talent and suggest the tradition
of Seventeenth Century Dutch still-life painting. In these new works, Escofet
paints on a larger scale with heightened complexity, adding to the depth and
drama of his compositions.
Escofet was born in Barcelona in 1930, where he spent his formative years. A
self-taught artist, Escofet has experimented in many mediums from cement to
latex to gouache and oil. His work has evolved stylistically from abstract to
figurative art. Since moving to England in 1980, Escofet has developed a keen
interest in still-life and flower painting, drawing on nature as an
inexhaustible and timeless source of inspiration for his carefully composed
works.
There will be an opening reception on Tuesday, November 3, 6 to 8 pm at 4 East
77th Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm, and by
appointment, 212/861-6008.
