SNAPSHOT: RICHARD J. FRANKONIS

Occupation: I wear two hats. I am a pharmacist and nutritionist. I received

board certification in clinical nutrition last year, and I am studying for my

master's in human nutrition at the University of New Haven. I do nutritional

consulting for patients and create special compounded prescriptions that are

not readily available commercially. I also do personalized weight and fat loss

programs for people.

Residence: I have lived here for 26 years. I have worked here since 1970 at

the Newtown Pharmacy and now at the NutritionLAB Pharmacy.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: I've seen a change in the shopping areas and the

influx of larger chain stores rather than the small shops we used to have.

Obviously, the town is also growing residentially.

Family: My wife, Nina, and I have been married for 30 years. We have three

children. Jennifer, 29, is married and is a nurse in Stamford; Richard Jr, 26

is a law student; and John, 25, is a graduate student studying nutrition. He

is married and lives on Long Island.

Pets: We have a dog, Nikki, two cats, Inka and Ginger, and a parakeet that

doesn't have a name.

Hobbies: My wife and I like to hike and look at different architecture. We

also play golf. Nutrition is also my avocation as well as vocation. I enjoy

it. It is an exceptionally interesting field. I also like to go to the movies,

and enjoy watching American Movie Classics on TV. I like history themes.

Books: I like to read. Tom Clancy and John Grisham are my favorite authors. I

also read nutritional journals and other professional materials.

Organizations: I belong to various pharmaceutical and nutritional

organizations. I am a member of the Masonic Lodge, Hiram Lodge 18, in Sandy

Hook.

Favorite Vacation Spot: We like Stowe, Vt. We hike up there. We try to get up

there as much as we can.

Philosophy: To die at a young age very late in life, which means to keep young

through nutrition and healthy habits.
