Local Man Takes Up Internship At Police Department
While studying the criminal justice system in college, a local man will be
getting some practical training in police station procedures at the Newtown
Department of Police Services.
Fred Dotson, 20, who is in his last semester for an associate's degree in
criminal justice at Naugatuck Valley Community-Technical College in Waterbury,
will be working as an intern at the police station for course credits until
early May.
"It's a field that would be very challenging, very interesting," Mr Dotson
said of law enforcement. The field also benefits members of the community, he
added.
"I want to go into police work and law enforcement," he said, adding he plans
to pursue additional college education in the future.
Detective Robert Tvardzik, police department spokesman, said that through his
internship Mr Dotson will gain familiarity with various operations at the
police department.
The internship will involve working inside the police station, including
working in the areas of recordkeeping and disptaching, Det Tvardzik said.
Mr Dotson will work in the police station for eight hours weekly until the end
of the current college semester.
Mr Dotson said he plans to start applying for law enforcement postions during
this semester.
