SNAPSHOT: JOHN PALOIAN

Occupation: Meat cutter by trade. My wife and I - John and Joyce - own a

cheesecake business, J&J Premium Cheesecakes. I own the deli and the meat and

grocery business. I've been in business in Newtown for about 20 years.

How long in Newtown: I've lived here 34 years.

Biggest change: The growth of the town. Since I moved here the population has

increased quite rapidly. It's a good town to live in - we brought up four boys

here.

Family: We have four sons - John Jr, Mark, Thomas, and Richard. Three are

married. And we have six grandchildren.

Hobbies: During my time off, which is not too much, I enjoy fishing and going

places with my grandchildren. I really like going to their different

activities - that's what life's all about. I like walking through the parks in

Newtown; they're so pretty. My wife and I take a lot of walks.

Favorite park: Treadwell because so many different activities are going on

there - tennis, baseball... I like watching them.

Favorite fishing spot: I like salt water fishing, to tell you the truth. I

just go where tuna or flounder might be running.

Favorite food: Being of Armenian decent I like lamb shish-kabobs and rice

pilaf. I like salads and other vegetables.

Organizations: I was in scouting, as a leader, for about 15 years.

Most challenging aspect of running a business: Let me put it this way, the

most challenging thing is to keep your customers happy and satisfied. I want

things to be right.

Most celebrated customer: When they were making the movie in Newtown, Kevin

Bacon used to get his lunch from here. He's a great person.

Personal philosophy: I think, being nice to people and they'll always be nice

to you. I really believe in that.
