DOC Goes Online

The state Department of Correction (DOC) has created a website on the World

Wide Web section of the Internet.

The website's Internet address is: http://www.state.ct.us/doc.

The DOC home page opens with words of welcome from DOC Commissioner John

Armstrong. The website outlines the DOC's organizational structure, provides

details about all DOC facilities, lists department accomplishments and

displays historical information about existing and closed facilities. The

website has color aerial photos of prisons.

Other DOC web pages describe the range of products and services offered by

prison industries, describe security levels for facilities and inmates, and

list correctional facilities and officials since Newgate Prison opened in

1773.

The website provides statistics on the imprisoned population by gender, race

and status. Also available are ten-year tables describing staffing levels,

general fund expenditures and inmate and community-supervised populations.

The site provides a contact page for inquiries via telephone or e-mail.

DOC runs Garner Correctional Institution on Nunnawauk Road, a high-security

prison housing more than 700 inmates.
