Paying Attention To Those In Need
How many times in the course of a year do you think of something you should
have done for someone but did not do? How many times have you found out that a
single mother, or a man out of work, or a child with special problems has
needlessly suffered because no one was paying attention - no one was there to
help?
Most of us are inclined to help out when we see that help is needed. When our
family, friends, and acquaintances need a helping hand, we do our best to be
there to give it. But too often in a growing town like ours, there are people
whose problems escape the attention of those in a position to help. This is
the time of year, however, when most of us try to do better in this regard.
During the holidays, we count our blessings and often come up with a surplus.
So it is our inclination to share.
As has been their custom in recent years, the Women Involved in Newtown (WIN)
have been working to extend the vision of Newtowners who share this
inclination so that they may see the needs of those who are coming up short
this year in the blessing count. WIN's annual Thanksgiving Program is
currently under way, and Newtowners are invited to "adopt" a family, or a
senior citizen, or a single mother to help ease their troubles, at least
during this time of year when we all are called on to give thanks.
