P&Z Schedules Public Hearings
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) has scheduled a public hearing for
March 6 on a proposed 15-lot residential subdivision on 31 acres in the Sandy
Hook section, near Riverside.
The hearing is slated for 8 pm at Newtown Middle School auditorium, 11 Queen
Street.
Applicants Robert Mathison and Emory Palmer want to build Watch Hill. The land
is located on Alpine Drive, Alpine Circle, Pole Bridge Road and Bancroft Road.
The applicants encountered strong opposition to a previous version of Watch
Hill, which was pending before the P&Z during the summer of 1995.
In August 1995, Mr Mathison and Mr Palmer withdrew their application for Watch
Hill, which was then a 16-lot subdivision proposal for 32 acres at Pole Bridge
Road, Bancroft Road, and Alpine Drive.
Residents had raised questions about the practicality of building that many
houses on that site, noting that the area already has a high population
density. Many area residents said they feared that building a subdivision
there would cause drainage problems on their properties.
In another public hearing on March 6, the P&Z is scheduled to hear Walnut Tree
Developers, Inc's, proposal for an amendment to its existing special exception
to the zoning regulations.
The developers want to make some roofline, gable design, and related
architectural changes when they build the second phase of the 80-unit
condominium complex. The proposed changes are being requested to improve the
appearance of the complex and solve some practical problems.
