Council Approves Pay Raises
BY STEVE BIGHAM
One of Bob Cascella's final moves as a first selectman received approval from
the Legislative Council, which last week voted in favor of pay raises for all
town government department heads.
The council voted, 11-1, in favor of the pay hikes, three percent on average,
which equal nearly $20,000 more in salary expenses.
The pay raises for the non-union employees range from increases of two to four
percent.
Mr Cascella said he himself had evaluated the majority of the positions.
Democratic council member Melissa Pilchard cast the only dissenting vote,
saying a lid needs to be put on salaries.
The following raises were awarded: Town Engineer Ron Bolmer, $1,959; Building
Official Al Brinley, $1,624; Public Works Director Fred Hurley, $2,158; Parks
& Recreation Director Barbara Kasbarian, $1,291; Police Chief Jim Lysaght,
$1,280; Tax Collector Carol Mahoney, $1,538; Finance Director Benjamin Spragg,
$2,617; Community Development Director Liz Stocker, $1,709; Police Captain
Owen Carney, $3,469 (two years); Assistant Finance Director Donna Tomasko,
$1,264; Registrars Linda Connor & Shirley Lawrensen, $680 (each); and
Assessor's Assistant Sharon Bowman, $274.
