LL 12-Year-Old All Stars

Newtown's 12-year-old all-star team opened this year's District Tournament on

a disappointing note when it dropped its first-round game 3-1 to Prospect.

Though Newtown outhit its opponent 8-5, the locals lacked the timely hit that

might have pulled out the victory.

John Fiscella pitched a brilliant ballgame for Newtown going six full innings,

allowing only one earned run, and striking out eight. He consistently pitched

his team out of trouble, bearing down with his high heater to end three

innings with key strikeouts.

But Newtown's offense couldn't give Fiscella any run support.

Kevin Carolan and Jason Prasauckas both rapped out two hits for Newtown, and

Pete Stephenson tripled and scored on a single by Rich Petretti, but that was

nearly all the offense the Newtown stars could muster.

Down 3-1 in their last at bat, Fiscella and Prasauckas led off with singles.

But the rally fell short as Tim Gordon's bid for a two-out RBI single was run

down for the game's final out.

Having fallen into the loser's bracket, Newtown was scheduled to play its next

game on Thursday, July 13. A win would mean a home game on Saturday, July 15,

at 4 pm, while a loss would mean elimination.
