Teams Shine

The Newtown Middle School Math Team varsity and junior varsity squads

participated in the 14th annual MathCounts Northwest Regional Competition on

Saturday, February 1.

The varsity team placed seventh out of 21 schools and Jeff Corbeil qualified

for the state competition by finishing 19th out of 84 competitors.

Other students on the varsity squad are: Jeff Heller, finishing 24th out of

84; Doug Norton finishing 33rd; and Kathy Deng finishing 40th.

While junior varsity team rankings were not kept, Lindsay Sprung finished

27th, Michael Sprung finished 30th, and Paul Kastner finished 48th.

The Newtown Middle School MathCounts team is coached by Dr H. Philip Stahl.
