OBITS (Drabik; Rees;

Josephine Drabik

Josephine Drabik, 82, mother of Mitchell Drabik of Newtown, died May 1 at

Danbury Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Mitchell Drabik and had lived at 12 Tilden Road,

Danbury.

Mrs Drabik was born in New York City on June 17, 1915, the daughter of Anthony

and Mariann Kazana Turlay.

As a young woman, she had worked at the Macy's department store in Manhattan.

She had been a Danbury resident since 1953.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Danbury.

Besides her son, Mrs Drabik is survived by two grandchildren; and several

nieces and nephews.

Hospital, 24 Hospital Ave, Danbury 06810.

Funeral services were May 5 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street,

Danbury, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church.

Edna Margaret Rees

Edna Margaret Rees, 91, mother of Edward I. Rees of Sandy Hook, died April 13

in Llandough Hospital, Penarth, S.Wales, U.K.

Edna had been a resident of Parkside Nursing Home in Penarth since 1994. She

was born in Liverpool, England, February 14, 1907, the youngest daughter of

Edward and Esther Clegg. Her older sister, Alice, and her brother, Alan,

predeceased Edna several years ago.

Her family relocated to Penarth, S. Wales, around 1914, where she attended

Albert Road, Elementary School and the University of Cardiff.

Upon graduation, she taught home economics in the Welsh valley. She moved to

England and continued teaching in Bedford and London during WWII.

In 1946 she married Edward Rees, a marine engineer, and returned to S. Wales.

Edna continued to be extremely active and worked in various challenging

positions; she was the regional domestic science examiner for South West

England for several years.

Her greatest joys were travel, making new friends and seeing new places.

During her 11 visits to the US she traveled extensively in New England; she

loved Vermont, Upstate New York and many Connecticut locations, including

Newtown.

Edna also loved people, independence, the outdoors, crafts, knitting, nature,

flowers, physical activity and swimming in Bantam Lake. She also enjoyed her

more than 10 years of volunteer service at OXFAM.

Besides her son, Edward, and his wife, Glenna, Mrs Rees is survived by a

daughter, Meriyn Rees of Penarth, S. Wales; four grandchildren, Kevin and

Mark, of the United States, and Corrine and Jared of the United Kingdom; four

great grandchildren, Mark Jeffrey, Matthew, Keir and Alana; a niece and a

nephew.

Funeral services were on April 27 at the Coychurch Crematorium, Bridgend, S.

Glam, S. Wales.
