SNAPSHOT: MALCOLM McLACHLAN

Occupation: I am an insurance agent and the senior vice president of McLachlan

Sinclair Insurance Group. Our office is in Shelton. My business was located

here from 1946 until recently when we merged with Sinclair. I attended college

at Mount St Mary's in Maryland and Sacred Heart in Bridgeport.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown since 1946. Prior to that I lived

in Danbury.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: The biggest change I've seen is the amount of

people here and the vacant land being developed. There were only two paved

roads when I moved to town, Church Hill and Main Street.

Family: My wife, Nancy, and I have been married for 33 years. We have three

grown daughters, Megan, Bonnie and Katie.

Pets: We have two cats, Molly and Susie.

Hobbies: Golf. I am head of Rules for Connecticut and vice president of the

Connecticut State Golf Association. In a year, I'll be the president.

Favorite Books and Authors: I read mostly about financial interests and golf.

I just finished The Titan, the biography of John D. Rockefeller.

Organizations: I am president of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association

Board of Trustees. We have the best ambulance corps in the state. I am a

member of the Ridgewood Country Club.

Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: My best memory is of growing up here and of

three people who set the tone for the youth of the town, Coach Harold DeGroat,

Rev Paul Collins of the Congregational Church, who organized dances and social

events, and Wilton LaKaye, who ran the Sandy Hook Boys Athletic Club. They

molded the youth of Newtown in the 40s and 50s.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Bermuda. I spent a lot of time down there through the

years because my parents had a house there. Now it's Florida. We don't get to

Bermuda as often now.

Personal Philosophy: I just try to do the best I can every day and try to help

people.
