SNAPSHOT: DAVID VALLERIE

Occupation: I am a mechanical engineer. I work as a project manager for

Capital Construction in Old Saybrook. My company does a lot of strategic

planning.

How Long Lived in Town: I have lived in Newtown for 3« years. I was born and

raised in Ridgefield. A lot of people who I grew up with in Ridgefield now

live in Newtown.

Family: My wife, Debbie, and I have been married for eight years. We went to

high school together but didn't date until I went to college. She works

part-time in Ridgefield as a dental assistant. We have two children, David

Jr., 2«, and Eva, who is just over one year.

Pets: We have two dalmations, Chelsea, 6, and Alex, 8, and three goldfish,

Moe, Larry and Curley.

Hobbies: I do a lot of gardening. I also enjoy boating on Candlewood Lake and

Long Island Sound, and fishing. I'm getting a new boat in two weeks. I

dowoodworking. I'm fixing up our 33-year-old house and also do some furniture.

I have a shop in my basement.

Books: I don't do a lot of reading for pleasure because I have to do a lot for

work. I enjoy Tom Clancy Books.

Organizations: I am a member of the ad hoc committee for town space needs.

It's the first commission I've been on. I like doing something like that. It's

a way to give back. We are evaluating the problems of space needs for the town

and will be developing a plan to address it. It's interesting. I am also a

member of ASHRAE, The Association of Energy Engineers, and the American

Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: When I moved in, the streets were torn up for

the sewer, and additions for the high school and the library were going in.

That says a lot about the town. Big changes are going on.

Favorite Vacation Spot: I love Cape Cod.

Philosophy: Seize the day.
