Newtown Parks & Recreation day campers at Dickinson Memorial Park on July 28 were treated to a visit from representatives of the Connecticut Humane Society.

Campers were divided into groups for the presentations, and all of the students learned about dogs.

Connecticut Humane Society Community Outreach Manager Ashley Marshall offered one presentation under the site’s pavilion. Marshall shared pictures of dogs with the campers to explain ways the children can “read” how dogs are feeling from the physical cues the animals display.

After Marshall spoke with the campers, other photos of dogs were handed to the children for them to work in groups to identify how the dogs pictured were feeling.

The presentations were also offered at the Newtown Parks & Recreation day camp at Treadwell Memorial Park.

The Connecticut Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and, according to Newtown Parks & Recreation Assistant Director of Recreation Rose Ann Reggiano, the presentations at both Dickinson Memorial Park and Treadwell Memorial Park supported the organization.
