What is your occupation and how would you describe it? I am chief advancement officer for Waveny LifeCare Network. I’m responsible for all fundraising and philanthropic efforts for the nonprofit, so everyone can have access to quality health care.

Who is in your family? My husband David; our two children, Zachary, 20, and Madison, 19, who have both graduated from Newtown High School; and our local companion Horizon, an 8-year-old golden retriever.

How long have you lived in Newtown? 15 years.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to garden and kayak. I’ve also recently taken up running, and hope to run my first 5K this fall, in the Newtown Turkey Trot.

What organizations are you part of in town? Rotary. Currently I serve as the district governor for Southern Connecticut. The Rotary district governor is a leadership role representing 1,800 volunteer members, covering 55 Rotary clubs from Stamford to Stonington, up to I-84. Our motto is “Service Above Self,” and our goal is to have an impact in local communities and globally, whether it’s fighting food insecurity in Danbury to building health clinics in East Africa. I also used to be on the board of trustees for C.H. Booth Library, and I was also on the board, including serving as chair, for EverWonder Children’s Museum.

Who is your favorite musical artist? The Head & The Heart. They’re an indie pop band and they were in Bridgeport a few weeks ago, and they were wonderful. We’ve seen them, and even met them, before, and it was quite the experience.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? Dress for the job you want, not for the one you have.

What is the best part about Newtown? What I love most about Newtown are the people. Whenever there is a need, people step up, and they don’t just step up, they take action. That sense of “We are together as Newtowners” is really special. I also love Fairfield Hills. It’s so active there, it’s multigenerational. Mothers, older folks, gardening, pickleball … it’s a hub of so many people and activities. It’s heartwarming to be in that safe place.

What would you like The Newtown Bee to cover in the future? You guys do such a good job. I would like you to cover more about people who are making an impact. A little bit of everything, from politics to volunteer efforts in the schools. Just the grassroots people who are making things happen, from within, not because it’s part of their job description.
