Equinox Vs Impreza

Newtown Police report Lacy Daly, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox, was turning left from a driveway on Church Hill Road at 9:09 pm August 2. Police say Catherine Qualey, 78, of Southbury, operating a 2017 Subaru Impreza, was traveling westbound in the left turn lane on Church Hill Road. The vehicles struck each other, causing damage to both.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Daly was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Harold Pierre, 26, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., operating a 2019 Nissan Altima, was stopped at a stop sign on Hawleyville Road at 6:47 pm August 8. He was stopped behind a 2013 Hyundai Genesis operated by Matthew Hallock, 60, of Fairfield. Pierre proceeded forward and the front of his vehicle struck the rear of Hallock’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Pierre was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Hit Car At Gas Pump

Newtown Police report Frances Baldwin, 83, of Newtown, operating a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, was backing out of a parking space in a gas station parking lot on South Main Street at 8:53 pm August 8. David Konecny, 42, of Southbury, operating a 2020 GMC Terrain, was parked at a gas pump. The right rear bumper of Baldwin’s vehicle struck the front bumper of Konecny’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Struck Stone Wall

Newtown Police report Barbara Brennan, 85, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 Cadillac ATS, was traveling eastbound on Bennetts Bridge Road at 9:05 am August 9. Due to sun glare, Brennan’s vehicle made contact with a stone wall located on the edge of the eastbound roadway.

Brennan was transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. Brennan’s vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action has been taken yet.

Naked Man Arrested

Newtown Police report that at 7:52 pm August 9, officers were dispatched to a residence on Kale Davis Road following the complaint of a naked man walking in the area of Leopard Road. Police say the complainant provided video evidence that led to the investigation of a residence on Leopard Road. Upon further investigation, police arrested John Remchuk, 57, of Newtown, and charged him with second-degree breach of peace.

Remchuk was released on a $1,000 surety bond with a court date of August 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

Rear-Ended Lexus

Newtown Police report Jairo Costadareis, 69, of Danbury, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 2:11 pm August 10. He was behind a 2015 Lexus G35 operated by Cathy Taylor, 49, of Brewster, N.Y. Police say Taylor stopped behind a vehicle waiting to make a left turn onto Taunton Lane, and Costadareis did not stop in time, rear-ending Taylor’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Taylor’s vehicle was towed.

Costadareis was issued an infraction for following too close and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Hit Leaving Driveway

Newtown Police report that Julie Luby, 56, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Audi Q5, was traveling on Castle Hill Road at 4:48 pm August 11. Maria Goldsmith, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Buick Envision, was pulling out of a driveway on Castle Hill Road. Police say Luby came around a curve in the road just before the driveway and struck Goldsmith’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Luby was given a verbal warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police were dispatched to South Main Street for the report of an erratic driver at 9:01 pm August 11. Responding officers located the vehicle and executed a traffic stop, leading to the arrest of Nancy Debrizzi, 69, of Middlebury. Police say Debrizzi was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane.

She was released on a $100 cash bond with a court date of August 29 in Danbury Superior Court.

Too Fast For Conditions

Newtown Police report Bruno Ranolfi, 18, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2024 Kia Seltos, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 5:50 pm August 12. He was traveling behind a 2018 Subaru Forester operated by Sarah O’Brien, 28, of Southbury. Police say O’Brien stopped to wait for traffic to clear before making a left turn onto Schoolhouse Hill Road, and Ranolfi’s vehicle struck her vehicle from behind.

No injuries were reported. Ranolfi’s vehicle was towed.

Ranolfi was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and following too close.

One Injured, Cars Towed

Newtown Police report Laura Moore, 36, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Hyundai Tucson, was stopped northbound on New Lebbon Road at the intersection of Marlin Road at 2:24 pm August 14. Christine Updegraff, 59, of Newtown, operating a 2010 Nissan Murano, was traveling southbound on New Lebbon Road. Police say Moore attempted to turn left onto Marlin Road and the front of her vehicle made contact with the front of Updegraff’s vehicle.

Updegraff was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Moore was given an infraction for failure to grant right of way while making a left-hand turn.

Attempted To Evade

Newtown Police report Brian Aronson, 33, of West Haven, was arrested at 6 pm August 15 on the charges of traveling too fast for conditions, reckless driving, evading responsibility for injury or property damage, following too close, and possession of a controlled substance (third offense). He was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of August 29.
