Ran Off Road

Newtown Police report Gabrielle Milczarski, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Toyota RAV4, was traveling eastbound on High Rock Road at 5:49 am August 10. Milczarski's vehicle ran off the roadway to the right and went down an embankment.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Hit Unoccupied Truck

Newtown Police report James Bayles, 70, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Toyota Prius, was traveling northbound on Butterfield Road at 10:13 am August 13. A 2015 Ford F350 owned by R&P Tree Work & Landscaping was parked and unoccupied on the side of the road. The front right corner of Bayles' vehicle struck the left rear corner of the commercial vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Bayles' vehicle was towed from the scene.

The incident is under investigation.

Car Versus Bicycle

Newtown Police report Luella Leitner, 86, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Ford Edge, was traveling west from Church Hill Road to West Street, through the intersection of Main Street, at 1:50 pm August 14. Timothy Rescigno, 40, of Newtown, riding a bicycle, was traveling south on Main Street just north of the intersection with West Street.

Rescigno said that Leitner crossed Main Street from Church Hill Road, cutting him off and causing him to crash into the right front of Leitner's vehicle. Leitner said that she was crossing Main Street from Church Hill Road to West Street when a bicycle struck the right front of her vehicle; she said she did not see the bicycle.

Minor damage occurred to both the bicycle and the vehicle.

Leitner was giving a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Newtown Hook & Ladder, Ambulance Corps volunteers, and police responded to a call just after 10 am Friday, August 12 following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and an SUV on The Boulevard just north of Hall Lane. The operator of the motorcycle was treated and transported to a local hospital, and the motorcycle was towed from the scene. No further information was available from the Newtown Police investigation at presstime. —Bee Photo, Voket
