From the office of the first selectman, the following letter has been received for publication:

Dear Newtown residents,

As you may be aware, following Tropical Storm Isaias and the 8 day power outage that ensued, with the support of the Board of Selectmen and Legislative Council, Newtown filed and was granted intervenor status in the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority’s (“PURA”) investigation of Eversource’s storm response. We are undertaking this effort jointly with Ridgefield and New Fairfield as both communities had a similar experience to ours in working with Eversource and in the amount of time it took for power restoration. In addition, the joint effort will make the process more efficient and help to limit associated legal costs.

As part of this effort it is important for PURA to hear directly from residents as to their experiences in working with Eversource following the storm. As such, please direct an e-mail to PURA at pura.information@ct.gov and reference Newtown as your place of residence and docket number 20-08-03.

Here are a few things to keep in mind for your communication, though you are not limited to them:

Please keep e-mail concise.

Describe personal experience.

How long without power?

Ability to communicate with Eversource.

Ability to travel in neighborhood or town (roads blocked).

Fallen wires and trees not attended to.

Lost medication and food in refrigerator.

Immediate concern that this problem will happen all over again with the next major storm.

I will continue to keep you updated as this process unfolds. Thank you in advance for your time and willingness to share your thoughts with PURA.

Sincerely,

Daniel C. Rosenthal

First Selectman
