Newtown Continuing Education is offering online workshops for parents and guardians who are overseeing distance learning.

Classes are filling up quickly, but Newtown Continuing Education Director Jennifer Arnold said on August 25 that parents can e-mail continuinged@newtown.k12.ct.us to learn about future workshops and to join a waiting list.

“Newtown Continuing Education is offering onboarding workshops, which will help introduce and prepare parents/guardians to navigate the digital platforms and instructional resources being used this academic year,” Arnold said in an e-mail. “We hope that the workshops enhance our parents’ and/or guardians’ confidence so that they can help their student(s) have a successful school year.”

The workshops , which are led by certified teachers from Newtown schools, are free for district parents and guardians.

“We want to provide support for them and help bridge that gap between distance learning and learning at home,” Arnold said in a phone interview.

Arnold has worked with Assistant Superintendent of Schools Anne Uberti and Newtown’s Director of Teaching & Learning Frank Purcaro to ensure the platforms were being presented “exactly as they are being implemented.”

“We want parents to also be able to navigate, get on, and also be able to support their students,” said Arnold.
