Newtown Police Department Administrative Sergeant Jeff Silver has listed the local road closures and parking restrictions that will be in effect for the 58th Annual Labor Day Parade.

At 10 am on Monday, September 2, the parade will step off from the intersection of Main Street and Currituck Road. The parade will proceed southward on Main Street to Glover Avenue, where it will turn left and proceed eastward until reaching Queen Street, where it will turn left and head northward on Queen Street to the reviewing stand.

Roadblocks will be set up on roads leading to the town center. Motorists can either turn back or simply wait for the parade to conclude before moving forward. The road closures will run from approximately 9:40 am to approximately 1 pm.

Motorists traveling southward on Mt Pleasant Road (Route 25) will encounter a roadblock at its intersection with Reservoir Road. Drivers heading northward on South Main Street (Route 25) will encounter a roadblock at its intersection with Mile Hill Road.

Westbound traffic on Church Hill Road (Route 6) will be stopped at its intersection with The Boulevard. Eastbound traffic on Sugar Street (Route 302) will be stopped at its intersection with Elm Drive. Northbound traffic on Queen Street will be stopped at its intersection with Elizabeth Street.

Direct access to Main Street will be blocked at its intersections with Academy Lane, Currituck Road, Hanover Road, Schoolhouse Hill Road, and West Street.

Parking Restrictions

The following road sections will have “No Parking” signs posted on them and be considered tow-away zones due to the parade: The Boulevard between Church Hill Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road; Schoolhouse Hill Road between The Boulevard and Main Street; Hanover Road between Main Street and Hall Lane; and Elm Drive between Sugar Street and Hawley Road. Also, Meadow Road and Elizabeth Street will have parking on one side of those streets only.

Additional information on parking and the availability of shuttle buses is available at newtownctlabordayparade.org.
