Support The NHS Orchestra—

Go Directly To Andrea’s And Get Your Piece Of History

Newtownopoly, Newtown’s own version of the popular board game Monopoly, will be available for purchase at the Labor Day Parade to benefit the Newtown High School Orchestra.

The fundraiser was started originally to support the orchestra’s trip to Italy last April.

Some funds were raised to help with the trip. Future proceeds will benefit the orchestra. Eight months of work have gone into producing the game, which was manufactured by Pride Distributors of Farmington, Mich.

Forty-four local business owners supported the project by buying ad spots on the board itself, the money, Fate Cards, The Toy Tree Cards, and the Deed Cards. Another 41 Patrons contributed to the project and are acknowledged on the center of the board.

Newtown Savings Bank was the first business to sign on, placing their name on the money. Other “specialty” spots include Wachovia Bank on the Deed Cards, Newtown Lions Club on the Fate Cards, and the Toy Tree on the Toy Tree Cards. The corner spots contain Newtown Hardware on “Start,” Simply Nail and Spa on “Loading Zone,” Beth Brucker, Mortgage Broker on “Go To Court,” and Guardian Alarm Services on “In Court.”

The games will be available for purchase at the Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 4, at Andrea’s Pastry Shop, 5 Queen Street, across from the judges’ podium. Sales will be made from 8 am to 2 pm.

People who preordered the game can pick their game up at the parade. Those not picked up on Labor Day will be distributed through the high school.

The cover and inside artwork was donated by local artist David Merrill, who will be available to sign the games at the pastry shop. Andrea’s will provide cookies. Buy a game, get a free cookie.

The game is a limited edition of only 1,000 games. All of the 1,000 games will be numbered similar to a piece of art work. The first 110 games will be presigned by Mr Merrill and shrink-wrapped. The rest of the games will be wrapped and ready for buyers to purchase and have signed if they wish.

Following the Labor Day Parade, games will be available for purchase at The Toy Tree in Sandy Hook, The Little Green Barn, Sandy Hook, Dr Henry Gellert’s office on Church Hill Road. Games can also be purchased through the Newtown High School Orchestra by calling Linda Jones at 270-9763 — while supplies last. Ms Jones and Susan Corleto organized the game fundraiser.
