Opening day of 30th Annual Friends of Booth Library Labor Day Weekend Book Sale, 9 am–5 pm, at Fairfield Hills campus, Wassermann Way, (admission $10 Saturday from 9 to 11 am only; numbers for early admission will be handed out at 7 am), free admission after 11 am, sale of 100,000-plus books clearly-marked in 75 categories, building is handicapped accessible, refreshments available, sale continues daily until September 7; 426-4533.

NUMC Monthly Pasta Dinner, 5–7:30 pm, Newtown United Methodist Church’s Rauner Hall, 92 Church Hill Road, admission $8 adults, $7 seniors, $3.50 children, full spaghetti dinner, all welcome, coffee house/musical event follows; 426-0617.

Sandy Hook Village Farmers Market, 9 am–2 pm, parking lot at 5 Glen Road, Sandy Hook, local farmers, crafts vendors, baked goods, also nutritional seminars, children’s entertainment, runs weekly through mid-October; 426-2427.

Fashion Show for Make-A-Wish Foundation, 12–2 pm (rescheduled from Aug 28), at Sandy Hook Farmers Market, 1 Glen Road, suggested donation $5, fashion show organized by local teens will feature kids’ and teens’ clothing and accessories provided by local merchants, proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish, show will move to Booth Library if rain.

Monday, September 5

LABOR DAY

30th Annual Friends of Booth Library Book Sale continues, 9 am–5 pm, at Fairfield Hills campus, books half-price, see September 3 for additional details; 426-4533.

Tercentennial Labor Day Parade, begins 10 am, from Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument on Main Street, to Glover Avenue, to reviewing stand on Queen Street, with plenty of fire departments, schools, marching bands, civic, and other groups participating.

Tuesday, September 6

Sandy Hook Organic Farmers Market, 2–6 pm, behind St John’s Episcopal Church, 5 Washington Avenue, fruits, vegetables, flowers, baked goods, art, pony rides in weekly event running until October 11; 426-9938.
