Ready For The Road Race?

The sixth annual Newtown Road Race 5K and Kids Run are scheduled to take place at 9 am, beginning at Dickinson Park on the Saturday, September 3. Race officials have been busy getting the course ready, clearing fallen tree limbs caused by Tropical Storm Irene with hopes of keeping the race on tap as scheduled. As of Wednesday, the race was slated to be held as planned.

Last year the race drew nearly 650 registered runners along with another 200 children in the fun run and race organizers expect another big turn out this year. The course is a scenic tour that begins and ends at Dickinson Park and incorporates both paved and dirt roads.

T-shirts and goodie bags will be provided to the first 700 registered runners and there will be a post-race celebration. Trophies will be awarded to top finishers in the 5K and all children that participate in the Kids Run will receive a medal. This is a 100-percent volunteer effort and all proceeds benefit Newtown Youth and Family Services
