Fake Gun

Police received a call about 1:25 pm August 26, reporting that a person was displaying a handgun from within a motor vehicle in the vicinity of the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue.

After investigating, police arrested a youth under age 18 on a charge of breach of peace. Police said that the youth was arrested for allegedly “brandishing a facsimile firearm from a motor vehicle” in the Queen Street area.

Police released the youth on a written promise to appear on September 13 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields the identity of people under age 18 who are arrested on such charges.

Honda Vs Building

Police report that motorist Alice Bonvenuto, 68, of Ridgefield was attempting to park a 2001 Honda sedan in a parking space near The Little Theatre at 18 Orchard Hill Road about 6:52 pm August 20, when she inadvertently stepped on the accelerator pedal and the Honda struck the building, damaging the building and the vehicle.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement. Botsford firefighters responded to the accident to check the building, police said.

Warrant

Newtown police report they charged Sean Morits, 36, of 4 Castle Hill Road on the evening of August 26 on a warrant that was issued by Danbury Superior Court to Redding police in connection with a past Redding motor vehicle incident.

Newtown police said Morits was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving a vehicle with a suspended registration, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to return a suspended vehicle registration to the state.

Morits was released on $500 bail for a September 14 court appearance.

Moving Violations

On the morning of August 27, Newtown police went to Bridgeport and served an arrest warrant against Luis Rodriguez, 23, of Bridgeport, charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving with a suspended license, and failure to have functioning tail lamps.

The charges stem from a May 29 incident in which Rodriguez was stopped by police near 76 South Main Street for alleged motor vehicle violations.

Newtown police released Rodriguez on $200 bail for a September 10 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police said that while on patrol on the night of August 27, they spotted a motorist driving northward near 30 Hawleyville Road with his vehicle’s head lamps off, so they stopped him to investigate.

Following an investigation, police charged Edward Pilchard, 46, of 189 Hanover Road with driving under the influence and with failure to illuminate head lamps.

After processing, police released Pilchard on $400 bail for a September 9 court appearance.

 

Swamp Road

About 6:25 am August 27, police stopped motorist Manuel Barahona, 24, of Stamford near 33 Swamp Road to investigate.

Police report they charged Barahona with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license.

After he posted $200 bail, police released Barahona for a September 8 court appearance.

 

Multiple Warrants

Newtown police report that Woodbury police stopped motorist Joseph Pratt, 29, of 4 Meadow Brook Road, Newtown, for a traffic check in Woodbury on August 27, after which they learned that Pratt was wanted on warrants by Newtown police and Waterbury police.

Newtown police arrested Pratt of three warrants in connection with past incidents, charging him with breach of peace, threatening, second-degree harassment, and fifth-degree larceny.

Waterbury police arrested Pratt on charges including second-degree failure to appear in court and interfering with police.

Newtown police released Pratt on $15,000 bail for a September 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court. Waterbury police released Pratt on $500 bail for a September 16 appearance in Waterbury Superior Court.

Motorcycle Accident

An accident involving a motorcyclist and a SUV driver occurred about 12:55 pm on August 29 in Dodgingtown during a lengthy motorcycle parade that was proceeding through the area, police said.

The incident was a noncontact accident in which the two vehicles involved did not make contact with each other, police said.

In that incident, motorist Carol Rowe, 50, of 177 Boggs Hill Road, who was driving a 2006 Cadillac SRX, was waiting at a stop sign on northbound Hattertown Road, as motorcyclist Pascual Sanchez, 33, of 33, Methuen, Mass., was riding a 2007 Kawasaki southward on Dodgingtown Road, police said.

During a gap in the motorcycle parade on Dodgingtown Road, the Cadillac attempted to enter Dodgingtown Road and the motorcyclist then sought to avoid a collision by bringing the motorcycle down to the ground, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Sanchez to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Police said they issued Rowe an infraction on charges of failure to obey a stop sign, failure to drive to the right, and passing in a no-passing zone.

Tools Taken

Police are investigating a theft of tools from a pickup truck that was parked at a Meadowbrook Road residence.

Police said that sometime between 9 pm on August 25, and 7:45 am on August 26, someone stole assorted tools from the cargo bed of the pickup truck. The tools had been covered by a tarp. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 230-426-5841.

Items Stolen

Sometime between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm on August 26, someone entered a residence on Sunny View Terrace and stole approximately $2,000 worth of valuables, police said. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Church Hill Crash

About 12:26 pm on August 21, motorist Ryan Clancy, 33, of 65 Queen Street, who was driving a 2010 Mini-Cooper convertible eastward near 51 Church Hill Road, attempted to make a left turn and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist William Cody, 67, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1997 Honda coupe, according to police.

There were no injuries. Cody received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sandy Hook Accident

About 4:43 pm August 29, motorist Jamie Chard, 19, of 6 Tanglewood Lane, who was driving a 2005 Honda sedan southward on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, was waiting in a line of vehicles which was stopped at a red traffic signal, police report.

When the signal turned green, the Honda moved forward and struck the rear end of a 1997 Ford station wagon driven by Kimberly DelVento, 44, of 5 Skidmore Lane, police said.

There were no injuries. Ambulance volunteers transported DelVento to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said. Chard received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Hazardous Intersection

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Schoolhouse Hill Road and Hanover Road about 8:24 am August 23.

The collision involved motorist Gregory Gibbs, 42, of New Britain, who was driving a 2005 Dodge van northward on Hanover Road, and motorist Debra Sullivan, 54, of 32 Farm Field Ridge Road, who was driving a 1999 Toyota SUV westward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gibbs a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Nissan Vs Toyota

Police report that motorist Christos Vasillou, 24, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2004 Nissan sedan eastward on Wasserman Way at its intersection with Berkshire Road, about 5:30 pm August 16, struck the rear end of a stopped 2007 Toyota pickup truck driven by Sandra Raymond, of 9 Grace Moore Road.

There were no injuries. Police issued Vasillou a written warning for following too closely.

Primrose Street

Motorist Laura Perez, 35, of Riverside Road, who was driving a 2008 Subaru station wagon about 10:30 am August 27, was backing out of a parking space in a parking lot at 4 Primrose Street at Fairfield Hills, as motorist Michael Fay, 19, of Steck Drive was driving a 2000 Honda sedan behind the Subaru, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Accident

About 3:20 pm August 17, motorist Reuven Perry, 69, of Manchester, who was driving a 2005 Kia Optima sedan, collided with a Subaru station wagon driven by Gretchen Meier, 34, of Gardiner, N.Y., as the Kia was attempting to pull into the parking lot of the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road, police report.

There were no injuries. Perry received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

I-84 DUI

State police said they received a report that a motorist traveling in a silver-colored GMC on westbound Interstate 84 was driving erratically late on the night of August 28, so they investigated.

State police said that motorist Scott Ely, 36, of Monroe was seen drifting in and out of lanes on the highway, after which they stopped the vehicle to investigate.

Ely got arrested on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive in the established lane, state police said. He was released on $500 bail for a September 15 court appearance.

Highway DUI

State police report that motorist Jaime Chimbo, 20, of Danbury was spotted traveling among the lanes of westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 12:07 am on August 28, so Chimbo was stopped for an investigation.

Chimbo got arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, and also for a license violation and for a travel lane violation, state police said.

Chimbo posted $450 bail for a September 13 court arraignment on the charges.

MV Violations

Police report they saw a disabled vehicle near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Oakview Road about 3:15 pm August 31, so they investigated.

Police said they charged the vehicle’s driver, Nicole Santo, 25, of Danbury, with misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police released Santo on a written promise to appear on September 14 in Danbury Superior Court.

Vehicular Offenses

Police said they stopped motorist Sabrina Wilson, 55, of Danbury near the intersection of South Main Street and Elm Drive for a motor vehicle violation about 6:40 pm August 31.

Police charged Wilson with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving with a suspended license.

Wilson was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 16.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on South Main Street, near its southern intersection with Elm Drive, about 5 pm August 31.

Motorist Charlotte Thompson, 50, of 96 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 2010 Buick sedan southward on South Main Street, stopped suddenly for traffic conditions, police said.

Southbound motorist Nancy Cullen, 55, of 10 Orchard Hill Road, who was driving a 2006 Saturn sedan, then slowed her vehicle, which was behind the Buick, police said.

Southbound motorist Robert Salerno, 65, of Monroe, who was driving a 2002 Dodge SUV, then struck the rear end of the Saturn, pushing the Saturn into the rear end of the Buick, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Salerno for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Charge

Police said that at about 12:15 am on September 2, a motorist called to report that the driver who was traveling in front of him was driving erratically, so police went to the area to investigate.

Police said they located the driver in question, Sean Fallon, 40, of Brewster, N.Y., in the parking lot of Hawleyville Deli on Hawleyville Road.

After investigating, police charged Fallon with driving under the influence. Fallon posted $500 bail and was released from custody for a September 16 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
