Finding And Using Irish Genealogy Records

Genealogy experts from the Connecticut Irish-American Historical Society will speak to the Genealogy Club of Newtown on Wednesday evening, September 8, at 7, in the community room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street. The speakers will discuss how to find and use Irish genealogy records, including a live demonstration of how to access family-history documents online.

The public is welcome, and there is no charge to attend.

The primary presenters will be Ellen Bohan, who has years of experience in hands-on and Internet research about Irish genealogy, and Paul R. Keroack, a reference librarian who specializes in both Irish and French Canadian genealogy. Pat Heslin, a past president of the society and its current archivist, will introduce the speakers.

The Connecticut Irish-American Historical Society was founded in 1988 to collect, preserve, and share the stories of Irish people in Connecticut. The society organizes workshops on genealogy and oral history to help members find and document their Irish ancestors. It also maintains a research library and archives at the Ethnic Heritage Center on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University.

Visitors and new members are always welcome to join Genealogy Club of Newtown members for their monthly programs. The club’s October program will be an insider’s guide to the genealogical resources of the Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown.

For additional information about the club, call Harlan Jessup at 203-270-7887.
