With Assault At Garner

State police report they were called to the state’s high-security Garner Correctional Institution about 9:05 am August 29 to investigate a report of an inmate assaulting a correction officer.

State police said that inmate Steven Hilyard, 28, allegedly spat upon a 50-year-old male correction officer and then threatened that officer.

Hilyard was consequently arrested on charges of assault on a peace officer and threatening. Hilyard was slated for an August 30 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Hilyard is being held on $32,500 bail at Garner on a pending charge of interfering with police in connection with another incident.
