Celeste R. Verzaro

Celeste “Sally” R. Verzaro, 76, of Monroe, beloved wife of the late Louis Verzaro, died peacefully August 30 at St Vincent’s Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport, July 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John Peter and Anna Helen Coolis Minalga.

Her son, John Minalgo, and his wife Patricia, of Newtown; cherished grandchildren, Jay Minalgo of Texas, Jesse and Poey Minalgo of Monroe, Jody and Anthony Morris of Southbury, Jamie and Jesse Martinez of New York, Amanda and Alison Minalgo, both of Oregon; three great-grandsons; a cherished sister and best friend, Patricia M. Little of Derby; brother, Michael Minalga, and his wife Gwendolyn, of Trumbull; a special niece, Donna Van Holtz, and several other nieces and nephews, survive Mrs Verzaro. In addition to her husband, a son, Stephen Minalgo, and a grandson, Joel Minalgo, predeceased her.

Mrs Verzaro worked as an assembler for Dresser Industries of Stratford for more than 30 years before her retirement in 2001. Prior to Monroe residence, Mrs Verzaro resided in Ansonia for eight years, and previously in Fairfield and Bridgeport.

A woman of great faith, she was a dedicated member of the Anglican Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, where she was active in all facets and served in many capacities. She will be long remembered for her generosity to all in need; but moreover, for her unselfish love and kindness she so freely gave to all.

A funeral service will take place at 9 am, Saturday, September 6, from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated by Bishop Rocco Florenza at 10 in the Anglican Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, 6 Church Street, Ansonia. Private interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Friday, September 5, from 4 to 7 pm.
