Aging Network’s

Annual Conference

WEST HARTFORD — “Celebrate Aging: Body, Mind and Spirit” will be the theme of this year’s Connecticut Interfaith Network on Aging’s annual conference scheduled for Tuesday, September 11, at Elmwood Community Center.

The highlight of this year’s conference will be a keynote panel that will explore “Interfaith Perspectives on Aging.” Rev John Carr, a retired chaplain of Gaylord Hospital, will be the moderator. Other panelists will be imam Abdul Hasan, Muhammad Islamic Center, Hamden; the Rev Richard Griffis, recently retired executive director, Capitol Region Conference of Churches; Rabbi Gloria Rubin, Temple B’Nai Abraham, Meriden; and Cornelia V. Leavitt, Bahai Faith.

Karen J. Messina, executive director, Shelter of the Crown, Inc., Danbury, and Terry Janaitis and Ceia Webb, both from Danbury Volunteer Center, will be among the professionals, familiar with the challenges of aging, who will lead workshops during the morning. The Interfaith Panel will follow lunch.

The Connecticut Interfaith Network on Aging is a diverse network that has been planning educational and spiritual conferences since 1984. Previous conferences have resulted in capacity attendance.

Newtown residents who participated in early CINA conferences were Judge Merlin Fisk, while serving as Newtown’s Judge of Probate; Clare Hipp, a former Newtown Municipal agent; the late Flora Lavery, a former chairman of Newtown’s Commission on Aging; and Jeane Roberts, a member of the Connecticut Interfaith Network on Aging.

Anyone interested in receiving a conference brochure may contact the Rev Barbara Barlok, 203-272-7994; the Rev Eleanor Applewhite Terry, 203-562-2143; or Jeane Roberts, 203-426-9707. Reservations will be accepted until September 1.
