Horse Guard Open House

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard will host its annual Open House on Sunday, September 13, from 11 am to 2 pm. This is an opportunity for the public to enjoy special events and exhibitions at the Horse Guard’s Fairfield Hills facility.

From 11 am to 1 pm there will be games for young children and equine-related demonstrations for all. Historical uniforms and tack equipment will be on display, and information on 2GHG history and traditions will be available. Refreshments will be on site as well.

At 1 pm, 2GHG Troopers will demonstrate a Cavalry mounted drill and perform the Musical Ride. The 2GHG Drill Team will perform a Quadrille, and there will be additional mounted demonstrations.

A volunteer, non-profit organization, the Horse Guard has served the citizenry of Connecticut since 1808. Horse Guard Troopers participate in ceremonial events at the order of either the Governor or the Adjutant General. The Horse Guard participates in all Gubernatorial Inaugurals and some Presidential Inaugurals.

Upcoming events include the Newtown Labor Day parade, the Connecticut Day parade at the Big E on September 23, and a Battalion Review on October 18.
