SUV Crash

While traveling on Hattertown Road, near its intersection with Boggs Hill Road, motorist Charles Hoffmann, 62, of 26 Eden Hill Road, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban SUV, encountered a deer that ran onto the street at about 8:44 am August 24, according to police.

Hoffmann swerved to avoid colliding with the deer, but in doing so, the SUV struck an unoccupied 1997 Nissan Maxima sedan that was parked in the driveway at 55 Hattertown Road, and also struck a garage that address, police said.

Hoffmann was not injured, Police took no enforcement.

DUI Accident

About 2:35 am August 29, motorist Joseph Fonseca, 23, of 1 Pebble Road was driving a Nissan Maxima southward near 21 Pebble Road, when the Nissan went off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

Police said that on their arrival at the accident scene, Fonseca was not there. Police said they found Fonseca at his home where he was preparing to return to the accident scene.

After investigating, police charged Fonseca with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

Following arrest processing, police released Fonseca from custody on $100 bail for a September 15 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Rear-Ender

A two-vehicle collision occurred near 164 Berkshire Road, near Berkshire Road’s intersection with Gray’s Plain Road and Bennetts Bridge Road, at about 5:49 pm August 20.

Southbound motorist Michael Devesta, 35, of Derby, who was driving a 2003 Ford Econoline van, was stopping for traffic conditions, when southbound motorist Amy Andras, 26, of 30 South Main Street, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, struck the rear end of the Ford, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Andras for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hazardous Intersection

Police report that two vehicles collided at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 6:17 pm August 28.

Motorist Judith Conger, 51, of 61 Philo Curtis Road was driving a 2007 Jeep Liberty SUV northward on South Main Street, as motorist Akshay Agashe, 18, of 10 Botsford Lane was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra southward on South Main Street, police said.

The Jeep then attempted to make a left turn onto Meadowbrook Road, but collided with the Nissan, police said.

Conger and Amar Agashe, 16, of 10 Botsford Lane, who was a passenger in the Nissan, received injuries in the collision, but both people refused medical attention, according to police. Botsford, Hook & Ladder, and Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident.  

Conger received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police said.

Dodge Vs Audi

About 4:24 pm August 18, motorist Peter D’Amico, 63, of 20 Silver City Road, who was driving a 2006 Audi A-6 sedan northward near 123 South Main Street, stopped to allow a noncontact vehicle to make a turn, police said.

Northbound motorist John Daigle, 49, of 11 Orchard Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Dodge 1500 pickup truck, then struck the Audi from behind, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said Daigle received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Corolla Off Road

About 10:10 pm on August 18, motorist Claudio Bachista, 36, of Asheboro, N.C., who was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla southward on Hawleyville Road, just south of its intersection with Farrell Road, approached a curve in the road and then swerved in order to avoid colliding with a deer, but in doing so, he lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The Toyota then hit a stone retaining wall and struck a road sign, police said. There were no injuries. Police gave Bachista a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Interstate Crash

About 10:38 pm August 25, motorist Jake Condren, 18, of Southington, who was driving a 1997 Mazda Millenia eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, lost control of the auto and drove off the left road shoulder, striking some guard cabling, state police said.

The Mazda damaged an about 150-foot length of guard cabling. Condren declined medical attention at the scene, according to state police. Enforcement information was not available.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 4:53 pm August 26.

Motorist Xiao Hong, 55, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Matrix, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Adam Abel, 19, of West Hartford, who was driving a 1999 Mercury Sable, stopped behind the Toyota, state police said.

Motorist Dennis McGreary, 56, of Altoona, Penn., who was driving a 2007 Peterbilt truck, then struck rear end of the Mercury, pushing the Mercury into the rear end of the Toyota, state police said.

 State police said that Zhong and Toyota passenger Bi Liu, 51, of Waterbury were injured in the accident. Enforcement information was not available.

 

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Berkshire Road, at its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, about 12:13 pm August 28.

Motorist Sophie Brenner, 18, of Lords Valley, Penn., who was driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was waiting at a traffic signal on Berkshire Road, when the Chrysler was struck from behind by motorist Meghan Wylie, 31, of Oxford, who was driving a 1995 Nissan Altima sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Wylie for following too closely.

DUI Rollover

Police report that motorist Therese Stanis, 26, of Bethel was involved in a one-vehicle rollover accident on Route 302, near its intersection with Boggs Hill Road, about 12:24 am August 30. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the incident.

Police said that after investigating the crash, they charged Stanis with driving under the influence and with a travel lane violation.

Following arrest processing, police released Stanis from custody on $100 bail for a September 15 court appearance.

Four MV Charges

Police said they received a report of a two-vehicle accident near 67 Church Hill Road about 3:53 pm August 28, so they went there to investigate.

Following their investigation, police said they charged one of the two motorists involved in that crash with four motor vehicle offenses.

Police said they charged Sarah Surles, 23, of New Milford with passing in a no-passing zone, improper use of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance.

After processing her charges, police released Surles on $100 bail for a September 11 court appearance.

Found Keys

Police are holding for safekeeping a set of keys that was found on August 27 on Jeremiah Road in Sandy Hook. The set contains one vehicle key and two house keys. The owner may claim the item by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Church Hill Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 12:25 pm August 28 on Church Hill Road near the Blue Colony Diner.

The accident involved motorist Carol Ann Wenzel, 66, of Scranton, Penn., who was driving a 2005 Mazda sedan, and motorist Francis J. Scapeccia, Jr, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Wenzel received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

 

Jeep Vs Toyota

About 6:21 pm September 1, a two-vehicle accident happened near Newtown Mobil at 62 Church Hill Road.

That collision involved motorist Sean O’Leary, 45, of 12 Charter Ridge Road, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, and motorist Robert Cox, 41, of 136 Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued O’Leary a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Alcohol Charges

Police said that on the night of August 21, they spotted Warren Chao, 20, of Greenwich place three 30-packs of beer into the trunk of a vehicle parked at the shopping center at 5 Queen Street. Chao was a passenger in that vehicle, police said.

The vehicle then drove off, after which police said they stopped it for a traffic violation on Schoolhouse Hill Road. All people in the vehicle were under age 21, police said.

Police said they charged Chao with possession of alcohol by a minor and with third-degree forgery for having allegedly used a fake identification card to buy the beer. Chao is scheduled to appear in court on the forgery charge on September 9, police said.

Police said they charged driver Dashiel Jeffries, 19, of 6 Wiley Road with possession of alcohol by a minor and with traveling too fast for conditions.

Also, police said they charged passenger George Collins, 20, of 2 Melody Lane with possession of alcohol by a minor.

MV Violations

Police report they spotted motorist Marc Smith, 20, of 78 Lantern Drive driving on Route 34 near Zoar Road without a front marker plate on his vehicle about 4:30 pm September 1, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Smith with failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Police released Smith on a written promise to appear in court on September 15.

Incident

Police said they responded to a possible assault at a Dayton Street residence about 3:30 pm August 27. The dispute involved the possible sale of a vehicle, police said.

Police said that a struggle then ensued between them and Ramon Santiago, 63, of New Haven, during which Santiago failed to comply with police instructions.

Police then arrested Santiago on charges of interfering with police and with disorderly conduct. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 10.
