The Winterset Ski Club will host its annual picnic and, new this year, Ski/Snowboard Tag Sale on Sunday, September 14, from 1 to 5 pm at Dickinson Memorial Park, 50 Elm Drive.

Burgers, dogs, and drinks will be provided by the Winterset Ski Club, which asks that attendees bring along an appetizer, side dish, salads, or desserts to this wonderful opportunity to meet with old friends and new members of this family-friendly Newtown-based club.

The sale is open to all interested skiers with quality equipment such as skis, boots, poles, snowboards, ski clothes and other related items available for adults and kids at reasonable prices. Nonmembers are welcome to shop for needed equipment for the coming ski season.

Winterset Ski Club was formed in 1970 as a club for all family members to enjoy skiing together. The club sponsors an exciting variety of ski trips and social events designed to appeal to the membership. This includes singles as well as families, snowboarders, and skiers that range from extreme experts to casual beginners. Membership in the club is inexpensive and offers affordable trips and the eligibility to purchase tickets to many popular mountains at discounted rates. Cost to join is $50 for the first adult (age 18 and older) member and $15 for the second adult member (maximum of two adults on a membership). Cost for children is $5 each.

The picnic serves as a preseason get-together to learn about the winter ski trips, from day bus trips here in the Northeast, an annual On-Snow Carnival in conjunction with the Connecticut Ski Council, to major week-long ski trips out West; this year is Snowbird/Alta. Special this year is an international trip to St. Moritz, Switzerland. Members will be able to sign up for any of the trips planned for the 2014-2015 season.

This family club also sponsors a wide variety of opportunities for families to socialize in addition to skiing together. Included in the yearly social events lineup is an Ice Cream Social, Raffle, and Chili Cook-Off Night, Holiday Party, and Pizza & Awards night.

Winterset also features a racing team for adult skiers of all levels on Monday nights during the winter at Mt. Southington, with a social hour afterward.
